OUR STORY

How we started

The Sea Cow Eatery has been an Edisto favorite for over 25 years. When you ask long time visitors or locals for suggestions on great spots to eat, The Sea Cow is always on their list! Famous for its delicious breakfast menu featuring Moo La La French Toast, John’s Omelet and the oh so popular Moo Mania, The Sea Cow also offers lunch and dinner with great daily specials and Martha’s famous pies and desserts. Not only is the food great, but the atmosphere is cheerful and comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating and a screened porch.

Lori Fowlkes first opened The Sea Cow in 1996 and owned and operated it until 2001. Lori and her young daughter decorated the original Sea Cow using whimsical cow fabric and she designed the famous logo of the cow with a snorkel. You can still find this logo on t-shirts, hats, coffee cups and other merchandise along with other popular cow designs. Many of the menu items Lori created are still on the menu today. In 2001, the Kontinos family purchased The Sea Cow and began opening 7 days a week and added a few of their own favorites to the lunch menu including a customer favorite Reuben.

Doug and Lisa White bought The Sea Cow Eatery in 2007. Over the years they expanded to a full dinner service and continued to operate 7 days a week. They added some new items to the menu while continuing to serve the original Sea Cow favorites. Doug and Lisa were a great addition to the Edisto community and could always be found working alongside their friendly and hardworking staff to serve the many happy customers each day.  As the time came for them to consider retiring, they knew the right people would come along to take over ownership.

In April of 2022, locals Kelly Moore and Raegan Brogdon, took over as the new owners of The Sea Cow Eatery. They are excited to carry on the tradition of an Edisto favorite. Whether you are a long-time customer or a new visitor to Edisto, the Sea Cow is a must visit! Stop by and say hey to Raegan and Kelly and their wonderful staff, enjoy a delicious meal and grab some cool Sea Cow merchandise……and don’t forget Martha’s desserts!!
